Tweak Bug

Some of the tweaks in Winspeedup (2.7) don't seem to be working so well for me. Mainly the "Display Administrative Tools Menu" and "Enable Balloon Pop-Ups" tweak.

The Display Administrative Tools Menu tweak doesn't seem to work at all. I can still display the Administrative Tools in the All Programs list by right clicking on the start menu and adding the option from there, but not matter what I set the option to in the Start Menu it doesn't change in Winspeedup (If I turn off Administrative Tools in the Start Menu it will stay checked in Winspeedup.) Not matter what I do in Winspeedup it doesn't seem to make any difference, off or on, the Administrative Tools just stay set to what I had them on in the Start Menu.

The Balloon Pop-Ups tweak doesn't seem to be working at all either. Whether its off or on, I still get the pop-ups.

Hope this helps!

BTW, I tried un-installing and re-installing Winspeedup, that didn't help.

Both the tweaks are set by a value in the registry. There are two paths to set them: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. WinSpeedUp sets them in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE which means the tweaks work for all users of the computer. If you set "Display Administrative Tools Menu" through the start menu, it saves the value at HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Therefore the tweak works only for the current user and overrides the setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
The same applies to the balloon pop-ups. If the value EnableBalloonTips in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced is set to 0 or 1 (disable/enable) it overrides the setting of WinSpeedUp.

Ah, good to know. Thanks!

Is there any way for me to tell which tweaks are modified in machine and which are in the user registry values? Or does WinSpeedUp only change those in machine? (I tried not showing hidden folder in WinSpeedUp and showing them in on my user account, but WinSpeedUp seems to have picked up the change from my account. Is there maybe only one setting for this tweak?)

BTW: WinSpeedUp's been doing a great job, especially where startup speeds are concerned.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell which settings are modified in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and which in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

The option "Do not show hidden files" is set in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. I am not sure but as far as I know this option can only be set per user, not for all users in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
